Korg iMS-20 for iPad

The Korg iMS-20 is an analog synth workstation modeled after its popular hardware predecessor the Korg MS-20 (monophonic synthesizer).  The iMS-20 is a little different in that it houses a vitrual Korg SQ-10, which is a drum machine/sequencer, and a built-in mixer.

One of the things I like best about the iMS-20 is that it supports MIDI keyboard input.  Creating complex melodies isn’t always the easiest thing to do on a small touchscreen piano, so being able to use a MIDI controller is a big deal.  In addition to that, you’ll get a seven channel mixer and 14 effects processors to spice up your mixes.  Kaoss Pad Technology allows you to manipulate sound and effects, in real time, by sliding your fingers across dual pads.  The sounds are of good quality and you have a lot of parameters to manipulate to your liking.

Personally, I like this app a lot as a well rounded production suite for electronic producers and it’s great for those looking to take advantage of the portable accessibility the iPad has.  No need to drag around a bunch of hardware these days.

The kicker is that it will set you back a whopping $33 – that’s a pretty hefty price tag in the world of apps.  With that being said, I still think the app is worth the money.
