AniMoog for iPad

AniMoog is a polyphonic synthesizer dedicated entirely to the iPad.  The synthesis engine is driven by ASE, which is a new Moog technology that “allows the user to move dynamically through an X/Y space of unique timbres to create an expressive and constantly evolving sound-scape.”

The Upside….

Polyphonic modulation and pitch shifting (expressive controls)  can be controlled directly from specific finger movements while playing.  Amp, Filter, LFO, and Mod Envelopes let you design an endless array of sounds.  Create complex X/Y paths to take your sounds on an authentic and constantly-changing musical journey.  Other key features include classic Moog filtering and orbital control of your sounds.

The Downside…

The app has potential, but it isn’t the easiest to navigate through.  The latency for playback is good, however some of the knobs don’t respond to touch that well.  A lot of the preset sounds are quirky and not well rounded enough. You have to record directly to Pasteboard, which is not always the most convenient.  Did I mention AniMoog costs $30!

If you’re an electronic producer with an adequate knowledge on audio synthesis then you might think this app is golden, but outside of that scope, I just don’t see how AniMoog is worth the $30 price tag.  You can get a lot more bang for your buck elsewhere.

I bought this app when it was on sale for two bucks, suckers.

They just released a sound package. I have to say i disagree with what you say about it being complex. The app comes with a small manual, which explains what things like LFO and Crush are. It’s actually because of this app that i now understand synthesizers, not only that– but the huge pad is also an oscilloscope. I’ve come to understand waveforms because of this app. Putting waves in waves, harmonizing waves, square waves crushed into round waves….

You can see so much of what is going on with the sound, and also play with it more than any other synth i’ve seen. The way you can move through the timbres with one hand and move through the polymod control keys at the same time is fucking mindblowing. Not only that, but you can now set the modifier to different filters, so it can be modifying the drive, or the LFO, etc.

This is THE ipad synth to own.
It’s the ipad music app to own.
Don’t forget, to buy the actual gear to do this costs more than 2 grand.
    It pays for itself.

Now if only that korg synth would go on sale…

Don’t get the review. This is by far the best value and sounding app on ios. And musical/expressive!
